Twelve Team members were deployed to the scene. On reaching the casualty, Team medical technicians assessed and began to treat the casualty, providing pain relief before the casualty was stretchered to meet the waiting road ambulance. The casualty was then transported to hospital by NWAS.

At 18:00 on Sunday 16 August 2026, the Team were tasked by Police regarding an injured walker on Helvellyn. A member of a group of four had sustained an ankle injury whilst descending the mountain. Eleven Team members were deployed to Red Tarn in overcast conditions with showers.

Team medics assessed and began to treat the casualty on scene, before they were stretchered off the fell and transported to Patterdale base. From there, the casualty was able to make their own way to hospital. The operation lasted four hours and thirty minutes, with the Team standing down at 22:30. Deputy Team Leader Matthew Nielsen noted that the group had come well prepared, carrying appropriate waterproofs, heat packs and an emergency blanket.

This equipment made a practical difference whilst the Team made its way to the party on the fell. It is a timely reminder that even in August, conditions on the higher fells can deteriorate quickly, and carrying the right kit could prove as important for your group as it did for this one. We wish the casualty a swift recovery.

Sunday 09/08/26 Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were alerted by Cumbria Police to rescue a casualty stranded on Pinnacle Ridge with a severely dislocated kneecap.The incident was reported via a 999 call at 12:07 PM. A group of hillwalkers, who had parked their vehicles at Patterdale, were scrambling up the technical route of Pinnacle Ridge on St Sunday Crag when one member of the party slipped, sustaining the painful leg injury.

The casualty was part of a group of four. Thankfully, their companion was a qualified Mountaineering Instructor who provided immediate first aid and deployed a portable storm shelter to keep everyone warm. The Rescue Operation: Location: Pinnacle Ridge, St Sunday Crag. Response: Full team callout. Ten team members quickly deployed with rigging equipment and medical gear.

Air Support: Due to the steep technical terrain, the Coastguard tasked a rescue helicopter to assist with a winch evacuation. The Coastguard helicopter deployed from Carlisle airport and they managed to drop their paramedic at the casualty site very quickly. Their paramedic administered first aid and the casualty was then winched up into the helicopter and evacuated to the Patterdale Mountain Rescue base where he was transferred to a land ambulance.A huge thank you to the Coastguard for their quick response and great team work.
