What we do

The Team carry out searches, often in extreme weather conditions, for lost walkers and on occasion, assist the police in searches for vulnerable missing persons. The team is trained in avalanche search techniques.

Our two qualified search dogs are on call 24/7. They are also available to assist other MR teams out of our operational area.

Our team members are on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to rescue walkers and climbers from the mountains and dales of Patterdale.

Members have mountaineering, technical rope skills, and local knowledge. Many have expertise in specialist mountain casualty care, emergency off and on-road driving and water rescue skills.

The Team has around 30 active members as well as a number of probationers under training at any one time.

Water Rescue & Flood Support

We have team members that are trained in swift water and flood rescue. The team has been in action in the devastating floods in Carlisle and Glenridding in recent years.

The Team has a Rigid Inflatable Boat that assists with lake rescue and speeds up team access to rescues on the shores of Ullswater.
