Solo Fell Walker lost in Mist
22/12/2008
A solo walker from North Yokshire became lost in poor visibility descending from Fairfield. The Team joined a search lead by Langdale Ambleside MRT, located the woman and led her to Patterdale.

A York man fell from Swirral Edge into Brown Cove. The team who were assembling for the previous incident responded and located the casualty who was lifted from the scene by a Sea King helicopter from Prestwick.
Two simultaneous rescues at Patterdale

Two walkers became separated from their companions who descended to Patterdale. The missing walkers were eventually found by Kendal Team at Kendale.
Cragfast climbers rescued

Two winter climbers became cragfast. After a brief search they were located and escorted to safety by the team, assisted by a pair of Penrith PMRT members who were in the area. The climbers were then flown down to the Rescue Centre by an RAF Sea King.

Two walkers lost there nerve in wet and windy conditions at the end off Striding Edge approaching Helvellyn summit plateau. A bystander called the police which led to a callout, however they had been escorted to safety by other walkers by the time the team had assembled.

A Bristol man slipped near Kepple Cove Dam lacerating his lower leg on an old metal stake. He was treated and stretchered to a Team vehicle for transfer to the Rescue Centre and then to CIC by county ambulance.

A 26 yr old male in an outdoor centre group slipped on a rock and fell 50 ft below Pinnacle Ridge. The team were requested to attend by doctor. The group had self evacuated. Transferred to County Ambulance
Youth falls from Striding edge

A 17 year old man fell from Striding Edge sustaining leg injuries. He was treated on scene by team members and air ambulance paramedics before being evacuated by an RAF helicopter and flown to Carlisle Infirmary.

Called by police to to search for a 16yr old local youth who was reported missing near to flood water. On attendance the youth had returned back to the farm house. The, First Responders and a county ambulance was also called.

A 39 yr old female slipped and fractured her ankle. The team stretchered her off into Boredale to meet a Landrover ambulance. The casualty was transferred to a County ambulance at Pooley Bridge. Penrith MRT assisted with the carry off.

Request by police to launch the boat and investigate a report from a passing walker who has seen a sinking yacht. Search was made of the area and nothing was found save a hatch cover. police divers located the sunken craft in the following days.

A female walking with her dog sustained a fractured ankle. She was treated on the hill and brought down by stretcher. Penrith MR Team assisted with the evacuation.

An Outdoor Activity student on an organised fell walk collapsed and was reported to be unconscious. Treated at the scene and stretchered down to just above Hayeswater and transferred to the Air Ambulance.

Report from passing yachtsman who had seen persons waving a red garment as though in distress on the crag. Investigated and found that the people were unhappy on steep ground but had been helped by some nearby rock climbers to re-gain the path.

Report s of flashing lights at summit of Great Dodd. Police requested MRT investigate. After a roadside watch no flashing lights were seen. Thought to be car headlights reflecting on the hill side.
Duke of Edinburgh Group escorted from the Fell

A group of 7 Duke of Edinburgh participants on a Gold expedition became overtaken by darkness and were unprepared to continue their descent to Glenridding. Team located and guided them safely off the hill and helped them set up camp.
Missing youth located

A 16yr old Air Training Corps member who was camping at Glenridding went missing during a walk on to Sheffield Pike. Group were concerned as he was lightly dressed and his mobile phone was not being answered. Search was initiated and the youth was located on the Path above Greenside Mines. No injuries.

Mountain Biker fell from bike and sustained head and facial injuries. Stretchered to Lake shore and taken by team rescue boat to West side of Ullswater for collection by County ambulance.

Mother and daughter walking the Fairfield Horseshoe became separated in low cloud and mist. Daughter phoned police to call out mountain rescue as she believed her mother was lost. As search was started the mother made a phone call to her husband to say she was safe and had made her way off the hill.
Birthday Rescue on Helvellyn

75 yr old man slipped and fell on his hip. He was unable to weight bear. Passing walkers assisted him to the summit and the team roped him down into Brown Cove to a landrover at the breached Dam. Penrith MR Team assisted with the evacuation. The air ambulance also assisted with lifting team members on to the hill as far as the cloud base would allow.

A 22 yr old male was reported missing from Waterside campsite. MR Teams from Penrith, Kirkby Stephen, The Patterdale Inflatable RIB and Lake District Search dogs assisted along with an RAF Sea King and the Police Underwater search team. Body of missing person located by Police Underwater Search Team the following morning.

Man with history of heart problems suffering from chest pain on Swirral Edge. Team attended along with colleagues from the Penrith Team and an Air Ambulance. The man was treated by a doctor. Members of the team were airlifted to close by. An RN seaking also attended. The man was flown to hospital.

Called by police to investigate calls for help and whistles coming from the Sandwick area. Team boat was launched. Team stood down shortly afterwards as it transpired that a man was calling for his lost dog.

Two males on the Coast to Coast walk became lost on High Street. They called police to request Mountain Rescue assistance. As the search was commencing the team spoke to another walker by mobile phone and they were linked up with the walker who brought them safely down.

Two separate reports to police of a person shouting for help and cragfast on steep ground. Team searched the area but nothing was found.

Rescue boat launched at request of Coast Guard to search Ullswater for a female who was seen to be in difficulties in the water having capsized her canoe. Transpired that the person had managed to get to shore and was checked over by a doctor at Glencoyne. No injuries. Air Ambulance, Beep doctor, Police, Mountain Rescue were all involved in this incident.

60 yr old female slipped and injured her ankle. Carried to waiting Landrover on the Old Coach Road and evacuated to Matterdale. Transported to Cumberland Infirmary by Count Ambulance.

3 mountain bikers (Father and two sons) became lost on High Street. One was exhausted and the party were unable to navigate off the fell. Located and returned to valley. Our Landrover became bogged in on very soft ground and was winched out with a second Landrover.

A man who was fishing on the Lake shore slipped and fractured his femur. The man was loaded onto a Mountain Rescue stretcher. The road was closed and he was hoisted over an 8 ft retaining wall and transported to a waiting Air Ambulance.

Male suffered an epileptic fit whilst walking with friends. Treated and stretchered off the fell. Helimed 58 (Air Ambulance) was also tasked but was unable to evacuate due to the condition of the casualty.

A 70 yr old man from Portsmouth tripped and hit his head whilst walking. He was treated at the scene and transported back to Patterdale by the Team Rescue boat and then onwards by land ambulance to hospital.

A female slipped and fractured her wrist and also had a frature/dislocation of her ankle. The woman was stretchered to a waiting Landrover Ambulance which brought her to the Rescue Centre where she was given further treatment before transfer to Hospital.

Two experienced climbers fell from the snow gully they were climbing. The protection failed and one climber dislodged the the second climber. They self evacuated and met at the Rescue Centre where Head and leg injuries were treated.

A 41 year old man from Newcastle pointy Slipped below the snow cornice and fell towards Red Tarn. Members of the Wasdale Team and a doctor from the Penrith Team were close by and also attended. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
