Ullswater Association supports the Team
Members of the Ullswater Association, a network of local tourism businesses, have raised over £500 with a raffle and presented Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) with a cheque for £250 last night (Wednesday 5 May).
Mark Hook of the Moss Crag Guesthouse in Glenridding is Treasurerof the Association and he presented the cheque to John Williams, recently appointed Chairman of the Patterdale MR Association.
“Each spring, we invite the staff from key attractions and tourist information centres across the Lake District to a familiarisation evening,” explained Mark. “The Ullswater Steamer Company very generously provides the boat for the evening and the event gives all our member businesses a chance to promote what they do to these key people. It also seemed the ideal opportunity for the cheque presentation so that we could also build links between the Mountain Rescue Team and our own members.”
John Williams received the raffle cheque on behalf of the Team: “Many of the Association’s members give us huge support throughout the year and we really appreciate their fundraising on our behalf too,” he said. “Like all MRTs, the Patterdale Team is made up entirely of volunteers and we rely on donations and fundraising to keep us going. The Ullswater Association’s annual raffle is a great contribution financially and it also does a great job in raising awareness of the Team. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket.”
The Ullswater Steamer Company will also be hosting a fundraiser for the Mountain Rescue Team on the evening of Thursday 24 June 2010. “The Company has very kindly donated the Raven for a cruise again this year,” explained Team Fundraising Chairman, Chris Gaskarth. “We organise live music for the evening and local friends, businesses and members of the Team provide a fantastic buffet supper. It is a great night and tickets will be on sale very soon.”
