Penrith business supports Team ahead of annual Duck Race
Members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team gathered at the Middlegate premises of Lakeland Embroidery earlier this week to say “Thank you” to Dianne and Gary Dalton for their support.
“Lakeland Embroidery has helped us with clearly labelling and badging our operational rucksacks,” says Team Equipment Officer, Neil Barrow, “something that’s vital in bad visibility or wet conditions. They have also helped on some of our display equipment and the gazebo that we use for things like the annual Duck Race in Glenridding. It is very generous of this local business to donate their time and skills.”
The connection to Lakeland Embroidery came via another Team member, Ray Griffiths: “I first called in and asked for some help about eight yers ago when the business was on Corney Place. Dianne and Gary have been really helpful ever since.
Lakeland Embroidery has also offered similar support to the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team: “As a local business, we support all sorts of local voluntary groups if we can,” says Dianne Dalton. “They’re giving up their time and if we can help them, we will.”
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team members will be out in force over the Easter holidays, selling tickets for their annual Duck Race at Glenridding Beck.
“The Duck Race can involve up to 2000 ducks,” explains Ray, “so it is a significant fundraiser for us as well as a lot of fun for local people and visitors alike.”
All the Cumbrian Mountain Rescue Teams are made up entirely of volunteers who give up their time for training and call outs and are available 24/7 throughout the year. Last year, the Patterdale and Penrith MRTs received more than 110 call outs between them. Tickets for the Patterdale MRT Duck Race are now on sale in Patterdale, Glenridding and Pooley Bridge and the race will take place in the newly dredged Glenridding Beck on Easter Monday at 3pm.
