Donated Land Rover creates a ripple effect
Back in April, Land Rover presented an MRT vehicle as a wedding present to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who then passed it on to MREW. That vehicle is currently being kitted out at the North Wales Police Commissioning Centre on Deeside and will soon be on its way to the Patterdale team in the Lake District, winners of a draw by Prince Harry at Clarence House, no less.
In the spirit of the wedding gift, the Patterdale team has conducted a draw of its own and one of its existing vehicles will be heading south to the Glossop team later in the autumn.
“Lord Chorley, a member of the Alpine Club and a Trustee of the Chris Brasher Trust, was visiting the Patterdale Base in July,” explains Patterdale’s Chairman of Trustees, John Williams, “so we asked him to make the draw and Glossop MRT’s name came out of the climbing helmet.”
“The vehicle will be greatly appreciated,” says Keith Montgomery, Hon Secretary of Glossop MRT. “Our present vehicle – which itself came to us from Edale MRT - only has a shelf life of about six months and we were embarking on a major fundraising exercise to raise more than £45K to replace it. A daunting task for a small, not very wealthy team but this takes all the pressure off!”
The various handovers are planned to take place in September or October and there’ll be news and pictures to follow.
