Team News: Land Rover donation chain continues 29th January
When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge donated a Land Rover wedding gift to mountain rescue last summer, they probably never guessed that it would be the start of a chain of donations that has gone from Patterdale in the Lake District to Glossop in the Peak District and will soon stretch a link further to Snowdonia in North Wales!

A rescued walker and her friends from Rosley near Wigton have just donated over £1700 to Patterdale MRT as a thank you for the Team’s work.

Local mountain rescuers and fire fighters competed for honours at Saturday’s Fun Day (24 September) to launch this year’s Ullswater Outdoor Festival.

Team News: Donated Land Rover creates a ripple effect 2nd August
Back in April, Land Rover presented an MRT vehicle as a wedding present to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who then passed it on to MREW. That vehiclewill soon be on its way to the Patterdale team in the Lake District, winners of a draw by Prince Harry at Clarence House, no less.
In the spirit of the wedding gift, the Patterdale team has conducted a draw of its own and one of its existing vehicles will be heading south to the Glossop team later in the autumn.

Team News: TV stardom (almost) for Ally and Steve 20th July
Team member, Ally Howard-Carter and Trustee, Steve Howe, have represented the Team in recent weeks on filming TV programmes that have very little to do with mountain rescue! The Steamer Pier area by Ullswater seems to have become a favourite with TV crews for outside broadcasts and Ally definitely got the better deal with sunshine and helpings of sticky toffee pudding.

Team News: Come Dine with Me event raises over £600 for the Team 22nd March
A Come Dine with Me-style meal at the Herdwick Inn in Penruddock raised £614, which local chef-for-the-night, Brian Firth, has kindly donated to Patterdale MRT. Thanks go to Brian, to Mark and Linda Wilmot at the Herdwick Inn and to the 80+ diners who supported the event.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) recently hosted a training meeting with representatives of the North West Police Underwater Search and Marine Unit that was attended by members of the Penrith, Kirkby Stephen and Patterdale MRTs.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue’s Supporters’ Club Secretary, Louise Walding, is planning some fundraising of her own, aiming to climb two of the highest mountains in Africa and raise £1000 for the Team.

The wishing well in the garden at Granny Dowbekin’s Tearooms in Pooley Bridge is a popular feature with visitors and the most recent collection has raised nearly £150 for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team. Ray Griffiths of the Team received the proceeds from Colin Hindle of the tearooms.

Staff and visitors at Park Foot Caravan and Camping Park have raised over £350 for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team with a series of fundraising raffles to win giant World Cup bears. Owners, Barbara Allen and Fiona Bell have then made that figure up to £500.

Team News: Ullswater Steamers support £2,000 fundraising target 14th June
The Ullswater ‘Steamer’ company has kindly donated one of its boats and crew to Patterdale Mountain Rescue Association for a midsummer evening cruise on Thursday 24 June.
The Raven will leave Glenridding pier at 7.30pm prompt and tickets are now on sale, priced £15 including food and music, from Linda Burton of Lakeland Office on 01768 890604 or 01931 712958.

Team News: Ullswater Association supports the Team 5th May
Members of the Ullswater Association, a network of local tourism businesses, have raised over £500 with a raffle and presented Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) with a cheque for £250 last night (Wednesday 5 May). Mark Hook of the Moss Crag Guesthouse in Glenridding is Treasurerof the Association and he presented the cheque to John Williams, recently appointed Chairman of the Patterdale MR Association.

Team member and ex-team Leader, Dave Freeborn, has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List with an MBE for services to Patterdale Mountain Rescue team. Dave served almost 17 years as Leader until handing over to Martin Cotterell in March 2008. He continues to serve the Team as a deputy.

Patterdale MRT hosted a fantastic day in the valley on Friday 24 July. HRH Prince William is Patron of Mountain Rescue England and Wales and he combined a visit to our Base with climbing Helvellyn to meet Centrepoint youngsters and a steamer trip on Ullswater with families from the WellChild charity.
