Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team News and Incidents for March 08

: Helvellyn 26th March
Father and 10yr old son fell in snowy conditions 200m from Helvellyn. Rest of party crag fast at site of slip. Two casualties stretchered of to below the cloud base to a waiting RAF Sea King Helicopter for onward transport to hospital. The remaining party -
: Red Screes 25th March
A 67 yr old male was reported overdue by his wife. Car located at Kirkstone Inn. After Searching Red Screes and other areas the mans body was located by the Langdale Ambleside Team. -
: Patterdale 21st March
The Team found a canoeist who had collapsed. The 20yr old male was on an instructor training session with an outdoor organisation. He was treated for hypothermia and flown to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance. -
: Hart Crag, Dovedale 19th March
A 14yr old girl had tripped and sustained a fracture to her leg. Treated on the fell by the Team and Airlifted to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by a helicopter from RAF Boulmer. -
: Swirral Edge, Helvellyn 18th March
Persons reported having difficulty descending Swirral Edge on Helvellyn. Members sent to check all was well. The group were found safely descending towards Red Tarn. All ok.

Team News: Swirral Edge rescue features on Countryside 999 18th March
A rescue from Swirral Edge last November was captured on film by a BBC crew flying with the RN Sea King helicopter that was involved. Footage, including Team Doctor John Ellerton, will feature in a Countryside 999 programme on BBC TV on Friday 22 March at 3.45pm, including a follow up interview with the casualty, Mr Peter Flint from Lincoln.

Team News: Come Dine with Me event raises over £600 for the Team 22nd March
A Come Dine with Me-style meal at the Herdwick Inn in Penruddock raised £614, which local chef-for-the-night, Brian Firth, has kindly donated to Patterdale MRT. Thanks go to Brian, to Mark and Linda Wilmot at the Herdwick Inn and to the 80+ diners who supported the event.

Ray Griiffiths has presented a Supporters’ Shield to Lakeland Embroidery of Penrith as a thank you for the company’s support in kind to the Team and as an opportunity to promote this Easter’s Duck Race.
