Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team News and Incidents for January 08

: Helvellyn 12th January
A 41 year old man from Newcastle pointy Slipped below the snow cornice and fell towards Red Tarn. Members of the Wasdale Team and a doctor from the Penrith Team were close by and also attended. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. -
: Nethermost Gully, 12th January
Two experienced climbers fell from the snow gully they were climbing. The protection failed and one climber dislodged the the second climber. They self evacuated and met at the Rescue Centre where Head and leg injuries were treated. -
Fatality on Hellvellyn: Brown Cove 9th January
A 62 yr old man from Bolton fell from the ridge into Brown Cove. He sustained multiple injuries from which he died. -
First Rescue of 2008 for Patterdale Mountain Rescue: Swirral Edge, Helvellyn 2nd January
A 17yr old male from Whitley Bay slipped and broke his leg just below the knee. He was treated by the team and flown by RAF Helicopter to hospital.

Team News: Land Rover donation chain continues 29th January
When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge donated a Land Rover wedding gift to mountain rescue last summer, they probably never guessed that it would be the start of a chain of donations that has gone from Patterdale in the Lake District to Glossop in the Peak District and will soon stretch a link further to Snowdonia in North Wales!

Team News: Louise sets £1000 target 23rd January
Patterdale Mountain Rescue’s Supporters’ Club Secretary, Louise Walding, is planning some fundraising of her own, aiming to climb two of the highest mountains in Africa and raise £1000 for the Team.

Team News: Sad news of long-time member's death 29th January
Team members have all been shocked and sorry to hear of the death of long-time member, Eric Harrison on Wednesday night.

Team News: Congratulations on MBE 1st January
Team member and ex-team Leader, Dave Freeborn, has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List with an MBE for services to Patterdale Mountain Rescue team. Dave served almost 17 years as Leader until handing over to Martin Cotterell in March 2008. He continues to serve the Team as a deputy.
