08/08/08 Location: Swirral Edge Helvellyn
During the early afternoon of Friday 8th August 2008, members of the Patterdale and Penrith Mountain Rescue Teams were called by Cumbria Police to an incident on Swirral Edge, Helvellyn, Patterdale. A male aged 65 years from Leeds was suffering from a suspected angina attack. A Great North Air Ambulance also attended and uplifted team members from Patterdale MRT and Penrith MRT to Swirral edge. The casualty was then carried in a team stretcher over rough boulder strewn ground to where the aircraft had landed. He was placed in the helicopter and taken to the Carlisle Hospital for continued treatment. The rescue involving 8 members from each of the two teams and lasted 3 and a half hours.
