Wet and very windy

A local farmer asked for the team's assistance to evacuate a sheep which had suffered fractures to its rear legs. We stretchered the sheep from the fell and the farmer then took it to the vet for assessment. Unfortunately due to the extent of its injuries it was put down.

Windy with sleet showers

A 14 year old girl from Bolton slipped from a fell path near Hall Bank, Patterdale falling some 50 feet down a rocky mossy bank. She sustained lacerations to her head and was also treated at the casualty site for a suspected spinal injury. After evacuation from the fell she was transferred to a County Ambulance which took her to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle.

A 55 year old man from Kent suffered a fatal collapse whilst walking in Deepdale with his friends. PMRT and Cumbria Ambulance Service attended and the body was recovered from the fellside.

Windy, soft wet unstable snow in gullies

Sixteen members of the Team responded when a 29 year old man from Sheffield fell approx. 30ft whilst climbing the face of Helvellyn. He was lowered to a safer location by an adjacent climbing party and assisted to the out-fall of Red Tarn. After assessment at the site by the team doctor he was found to have a fracture to his lower right leg. He was then stretchered from the scene and taken by County Ambulance to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

Gale force winds, very poor visible and torrential rain and hail.

Thirty mountain rescuers from Patterdale and Langdale & Ambleside Mountain Rescue Teams together with a helicopter from RAF Boulmer responded when a 24 year old woman from London sustained a leg injury whilst walking near Fairfield. Severe weather conditions were in evidence throughout the rescue which took seven hours to complete. After evacuation from the fell she was taken by County Ambulance to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle.

Swirral Edge Helvellyn

Sunny and clear, icy underfoot.

Fourteen members of the team responded when a 51yr old man from Calthwaite, Penrith, fell approx. 200ft whilst walking on Swirral Edge, Helvellyn. The man sustained pelvic injuries and head lacerations, and was air-lifted by a helicopter from RAF Boulmer to Furness General Hospital. The team was assisted by two members of the Pennine Bowland MRT who were walking in the area at the time of the incident.

A report was received of whistles in the GrisedaleTarn area. The team conducted a search, with the assistance of Langdale & Ambleside MRT who approached from Dunmail side. The teams stood down after 3 hours when nothing untoward was found.

The parents of a mentally handicapped girl raised the alarm when they lost contact with their daughter whilst walking in the Aira Force area. Whilst the team were responding we were stood down as the girl and her parents had been safely reunited.

A 60 year old St. Helens lady suffered a collapse whilst walking in the village. Members who were nearby with a team vehicle went to her assistance. After treatment at the site she was taken by County Ambulance to Penrith New Hospital.

Fifteen team members together with Keswick MRT were called to search for four walkers who were reported over-due at their campsite. The group had last been seen that morning at Boardale Hause, Ullswater. After several hours searching, the four sixteen year old youths were found by members of Patterdale MRT in the early hours of Sunday morning, safe and well. They had pitched their tent at Red Tarn, Helvellyn to ensure their overnight safety.

A 54 year old man sustained fractured ribs and a collapsed lung whilst abseiling on Gowbarrow Crag. After treatment at the site he was stretchered from the crag and transported by County Ambulance to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle.

The team was called to the assistance of a male fell runner who sustained lower leg injuries whilst running on the fell path between St. Sunday Crag and Deepdale Hause. The man was air lifted from the fell by a helicopter from RAF Boulmer and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle.

The team responded when walkers on Striding Edge, Helvellyn reported hearing cries for help coming from the Swirral Edge, Red Tarn area. After searching the area for several hours the team stood down having found nothing untoward.

A 72 year old man received cuts and bruises after tumbling near Striding Edge, Helvellyn. He was assisted from the fell by team members and then treated at Penrith New Hospital.

The team assisted a 15 year old Southport youth suffering from exhaustion whilst walking with a group near Angle Tarn, Ullswater. He was stretchered from the fell, and after examination by the team doctor was allowed to return to his camp site.

The team went to the assistance of a 49 year old Dutch female who slipped whilst walking by Low Wood, near Brotherswater. She suffered a fracture to her left lower leg, was stretchered from the fell and taken by County Ambulance to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. As the team was concluding this incident, they were called to search for a 21 year old male and 14 year old female who had become separated from their parents on the fell path to Helvellyn summit. As we initiated a search, both turned up safe and well, having been guided down to the valley by passing walkers.

A 52 year old male slipped on the fell path whilst descending from Red Tarn to Glenridding. He had suffered a badly sprained ankle and was helped by two park rangers until the team arrived. After treatment at the scene he was stretchered from the fell.

A 47 year old mountain biker dislocated his shoulder whilst descending to Hayeswater with his sons. His dislocation was reduced by a team doctor at the scene and after evacuation from the fell he was further examined at our new rescue centre, Ogilivie House. No hospital visit was required.

Eighteen members of the team responded when a 51 year old Bristol lady fell on the Howtown to Patterdale lakeside path at Silver Point. She had sustained lacerations to her left knee and was stretchered to the team ambulance and then taken to our new rescue centre, Ogilvie House. After treatment in the surgery by a team doctor she was allowed to continue on her journey.

The team was called to two incidents today. Eighteen members responded when a 23-year-old lady from Trowbridge slipped approx. 100ft from the face of Helvellyn, sustaining head and arm injuries. She was airlifted by a helicopter from RAF Boulmer and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. The team was then called, together with Langdale Ambleside MRT, to assist a lady with pelvic injuries at the summit of Fairfield. She was airlifted from the scene and taken to Furness General Hospital.
