St Sunday Crag

65 year old man from Rochdale slipped on snow and fell about 30ft whilst descending from St Sunday Crag Head and Chest injuries and mild hypothermia and a fractured femur. The man had been overtaken by bad weather He spent the night sheltering on the High Fell and on his descent tumbled over the crag.

02.01.04 17.45 St Sunday Crag A group of nine became lost on St Sunday Crag. They had no torches and were lightly equipped. They were located and escorted to the valley bottom.

A group of walkers became lost on Fairfield. After wandering around trying to find their way they called for Mountain Rescue assistance. A helicopter from RAF Boulmer managed to locate and lift the group back to Patterdale.

Dovedale A group of scouts had got into difficulties below dove Crag due to bad weather. They were intending to spend the night in Preist's Hole, a cave on the side of Dove Crag. They were located and airlifted to Patterdale.

Greenside A 21 year old male from Leicestershire slipped on icy ground and sustained a fractured leg, He was treated on the fell and carried on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance at Greenside Mines.

Face of Helvellyn A 44 year old man from Bolton lost the path on the top of Striding edge became separated from his brother and strayed onto the head wall of Helvellyn. FATAL the mans body was recovered by team members and a Helicopter from RAF Boulmer

06/03/04 17.43 Helvellyn 3 Females reported missing. Group had started to climb Striding Edge leaving the 3 females to descend and wait at Red Tarn. Intention was to circuit onto Swirral Edge and meet up again at Red Tarn. The group were advised not to descend Swirral Edge by a Ranger so descended via the Kepple Cove Zig Zags to Glenridding. The 3 waiting members of the party stayed until an hours daylight left and returned to Glenridding where they were reunited with the rest of the party.

27/05/04 23.00 Helvellyn Inexperienced walker overdue. probable intended route Helvellyn. 32 rescuers, 6 search dogs and a helicopter from RAF Boulmer searched the Helvellyn area. Man located on road side in morning safe and well having slept on the fell. Teams from Patterdale, Keswick and Penrith and SARDA assisted.

Helvellyn Area Assistance to the Keswick Team to locate a man (46 yrs) who had left Keswick in a depressed state. After his car was located near Thirlmere, a search was mounted . He was found by the Keswick Team on the summit of Helvellyn in the early hours, waiting for his last sunrise.

Tirril River Eamont Search for two missing youths aged 11 and 13 who had taken their inflatable boat from Ullswater on to the river Eamont and had been taken by the current down the river to Tirril. Search on lake by Patterdale MRT, Outward Bound OAC, Howtown OAC. Penrith MRT searched the river banks. The lads were located on the road, walking back to their campsite and carrying their boat.

A 59yr old male walker fell 100m from Striding Edge and suffered fatal injuries. He was walking with a party of 11 walkers.

Striding Edge Helvellyn A dog fell from the same location as the previous days rescue. The owners thought the dog had broken his leg but was found by the team to have recovered enough to walk off. No broken bones were suspected.
