The Teams' area covers some 140sq kilometres of the highest land in England. Helvellyn and its peaks form the most extensive continuous area of high fell country in the Lake District. It is climbed more often than any other Lakeland mountain, and more than any other it is the object and ambition of walkers.

High street, Fairfield, St Sunday Crag and the wild beauty of Dovedale and Deepdale, containing some of the great classic climbs of the area, all fall within the team's area of responsibility. And to the east of Ullswater the lonely valleys and tops of Martindale and Riggindale complete an area of dramatic landscape.

It is in this area that the Team has carried out over 1,000 rescues. Each year the Team deals with an average of 60 call-outs, 2 or 3 of which are fatalities. The majority of the rescues involve hill walkers or climbers, but paragliders, mountain bikers and runners all figure in the statistics.

The Team also responds to local community needs when snow or floods hamper the ambulance service, assists local farmers in animal rescues, is part of the Lakes Emergency Plan (Ullswater) and of Cumbria County Councils General Emergency Plan.
